Bahadur Khan, Nawab of Junagarh

(1856-1892)

Sitter in 1 portrait
Bahadur Khan was the 7th Nawab of Junagarh, he reigned for 10 years from 1882 to 1892. He was decended from Mohammad Sher Khan Babi who founded the state of Junagadh and declared it's independence in 1730 after the Maratha invasion. Junagadh remained a tributary to the Maratha Empire until it came under British rule in 1807, after the second Anglo-Maratha War. In 1947, upon the independence and partition of India, the last Babi dynasty ruler of the state, Mohammad Mahabat Khanji III, decided to merge it into the newly formed Pakistan. However, a revolt ensued from the Hindu citizens who formed the majority of the population, which resulted with Junagadh's assimilation into India.
