Suffragette and author of books including The Disadvantages of being a Woman. She is most remembered for An Englishwoman in a Turkish harem, a book based on articles originally written for the The Daily Telegraph. After establishing contacts with Turkish women living in a harem in Istanbul, the writer set out to challenge Western ideas of their lives. The Journalist travelled extensively, often drawing and commenting on cultural comparisons.
