Younger brother of Dr. John Adamson. Robert Adamson had a Callotype studio at Rock House, Edinburgh. In 1843 he began a partnership with David Octavius Hill lasting until 1847. In 1845 the pair exhibited ten calotypes at the Royal Scottish Academy. Hill's projects to publish their work were not realised due to the ill health of Adamson, who died in January 1848.
