Actor-manager and playwright, Grossmith regularly appeared on stage at the Gaiety Theatre in London from 1903-1913. Performing light comedy and lively songs, he became one of the best known stars of the day. In 1916 he was commissioned into the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and in the same year wrote the book for the successful revue The Bing Boys Are Here at the Alhambra Theatre, London. He also produced the hit Theodore & Co, with music by Ivor Novello and Jerome Kern, which ran for over 500 performances at the Gaiety Theatre.
