Sir Julian Huxley

Zoologist, philosopher and public servant; Huxley, brother of the novelist Aldous Huxley, was a pioneer in the scientific field-study of animal behaviour, a key contributor to the understanding of evolution, an early advocate of conservation and an influential popularizer of science. His critically acclaimed book Evolution: the Modern Synthesis was published in 1942. He went on to become the first Director-General of UNESCO (1946) and a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund.
