Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury

Conservative politician who was elected prime minister on three separate occasions: 1885-6, 1886-92 and 1895-1902. Salisbury entered the House of Commons in 1853 as MP for Stamford, Lincolnshire until he was raised to the peerage in 1868. He also served as Secretary of State for India under Disraeli (1874-8) and as Foreign Secretary (1878-80, 1887-92 and 1895-1900). He was a staunch imperialist and an opponent of reforms under liberal governments.
