Leslie Caron

French-born actress and dancer who was dancing with Roland Petit's company when chosen by Gene Kelly to co-star with him in An American in Paris (1951). The role launched her career. Caron starred opposite Fred Astaire in Daddy Long Legs (1955) and played the title role in Gigi (1958). Her second marriage (1956-66) was to British producer-director Peter Hall who had directed her in the stage production of Gigi in 1956. She won British Film Academy Awards and Oscar nominations for Lili (1953) and L-Shaped Room (1962).
