Ken Hom

(1949-), Television chef and cookery writer

Television chef and cookery writer. Born in Tucson, Arizona, where his Cantonese parents lived after moving to America in the 1920s. Hom learnt the art of Chinese cookery from his mother and at his uncle's restaurant in Chicago's Chinatown, where he worked from the age of eleven. After success as a private cookery teacher, Hom taught at the Californian Culinary Academy in San Francisco. He first appeared on British television in 1984 in the BBC series Ken Hom's Chinese Cookery. Since then he has written over twenty cookery books and made several television series. He continues to teach, and consults for many of the world's finest restaurants.
