Thomas Cross
(active 1644-1682), EngraverArtist associated with 168 portraits
Thomas Cross was an engraver who produced numerous portraits of authors for frontispieces as well as title pages for books. He was a specialist in engraving shorthand manuals, and was himself the inventor of a shorthand system. Around 144 plates by Cross are known of, of which eighty-four are portraits and forty-five are frontispieces.
