Pauline Chase
(1885-1962), Actress and dancerSitter in 52 portraits
American-born actress best known for her eight successive performances as Peter Pan. First appeared on the London stage with Edna May in The Girl From Up There in 1901. Chase was cast as the First Twin in the first production of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan in 1904 before succeeding Nina Boucicault and Cissie Loftus as the title role in 1907. Her record number of appearances was not matched until Jean Forbes-Robertson took on the role in the 1930s.
