Anna Letitia Barbauld (née Aikin) (1743-1825), Poet and writer

Wax by Joachim Smith, bust-length profile with leaves in her hair, sent to Wedgwood in January 1775; two blue-ground medallions being completed by July (illus. R. Reilly & G. Savage, Wedgwood the Portrait Medallions, 1973, p 57). Engraved T. Holloway 1776 (facing an oval of Mrs Montagu with an elaborate surround), and 1785 (European Mag.). On 3 July 1775 Wedgwood wrote that the medallions of Mrs Montagu and Mrs Barbauld were not modelled as a pair ‘neither in size nor character’.
