Hall, Catalogue of Engraved Dramatic Portraits in the Theatre Collection of the Harvard College Library, II (Cambridge, Mass, 1931), 422-3 (some examples in the NPG and the British Museum); two paintings by Ambrose were sold at Christie's, 22 July 1871 (lots 68 and 75); a painting by W. Bewick of 1837 was with H. Graves & Co, 1880, sketched by G. Scharf, Sir George Scharf's Trustees' Sketch Books (NPG archives), XXVII, 30; paintings by S. Drummond and J. Stewart were exhibited RA, 1834 (293), and 1858 (145); a painting by J. D. Herbert, exhibited RA, 1834 (17), and a bust by P. MacDowell, are listed by W. G. Strickland, Dictionary of Irish Artists (1913), I, 478, and II, 62; a lithograph by R. J. Lane, after a painting by C. Harding, was published R. Findley, Glasgow, 1826 (example in NPG); an engraving by D. Maclise was published Fraser's Magazine, XIV (September 1836), facing 272, as no.76 of Maclise's 'Gallery of Illustrious Literary Characters'; a drawing by Count A. D'Orsay of 1839 was sold at Sotheby's, 13 February 1950 (lot 216), bought Colnaghi, lithographed by R. J. Lane, published J. Mitchell (example in NPG); marble busts by H. Kachler and P. L. Crowley were exhibited RA, 1842 (1370), and 1859 (1363); a bust by C. Tate is listed by R. Gunnis, Dictionary of British Sculptors (1953), p 380; a woodcut was published ILN, XLI (1862), 677; an unidentified portrait was in the Dublin Exhibition, 1872, 'National Portrait Gallery' (288), lent by the Madame Steevens's Hospital; there is a photograph by J. Douglas in the NPG.
