Blyth 1782 (illus. J. Sunderland, 'John Hamilton Mortimer, his Life and Works', Wal. Soc., LII, 1986, fig.1); also engraved W. Watt 1833.

Doubtful Portraits
A portrait of an elegantly dressed young artist sketching by a tomb (Royal Academy), long attributed to Richard Wilson and called a portrait of Mortimer, is now considered to be an unknown artist painted by Mortimer, and a drawing in the British Museum (1859.7.9.70), exhibited as a self-portrait in 1974, probably shows James Paine (J. Sunderland, 'John Hamilton Mortimer, his Life and Works', Wal. Soc., LII, 1986, nos.44, 168).
