Albumen print by unidentified photographer, vignette, head-and-shoulders to right; carte-de-visite size (signed on reverse) NPG Ax14909. This is the only known photograph and it is earlier than the self-portrait.

1) Probably Joseph Edwards (1814–82), Welsh sculptor, exh. RA 1838–78. ‘No.1229 Stephen Pearce’ was almost certainly a portrait of the artist, who by the 1850s was a public figure.
