William Romaine (1714-1795), Evangelical divine

Apart from the portraits by Cotes and Russell and the bust by John Bacon, Romaine’s iconography is confined to indifferent engravings, principally for evangelical publications.

Anon. engraving, three-quarter length preaching (from Acts XI), lettered ... Prepare to meet thy God, Amos IV, 12, pub. R. Sayer, derived from a smaller print of the Rev Thomas Jones (same head and view through window) which appeared as one of four portraits on one plate (of which Romaine after Cotes was another).

Thompson, three-quarter length, preaching from Ephesians II, with Romaine arms [ar. on a fesse sa. three crosses flowered or] and motto [I live by the Faith of the Son of God]: Drawn from life & Engrav’d B. Reading, pub. 6 June 1795; West/Smith dt., with date of death, 26 July 1795, pub. 10 August 1795. Both heads relate to the c.1785 pattern described above.
