A painting by W. Etty is at Pollok House, Glasgow, exhibited VE, 1892 (283), reproduced D. Farr, William Etty (1958), plate 90; another painting by Etty, with her two sisters(?), is in the City Art Gallery, Manchester, reproduced Farr, plate 93; a painting by G. F. Watts is in the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, and so is a drawing by J. Hayter, engraved by J.Thomson, published H. Colburn, 1833 (example in NPG), for the 'Court Journal'; there are two similar drawings, one in the collection of Lord Grantley, 1954, the other engraved by G. J. Stodart, published R. Bentley, 1886 (example in NPG); a painting by Sir G. Hayter is at Chatsworth, reproduced Connoisseur, IX (1904), 149, engraved by J. Cochran, published 1836 (example in NPG), for 'Churton's Portrait and Landscape Gallery', and lithographed anonymously (example in British Museum); a painting by J. R. Swinton (with Lady Dufferin and the Duchess of Somerset) was exhibited RA, 1852 (35) and VE, 1892 (17), lent by the Marquess of Dufferin and Ava; a drawing by Swinton, possibly related to the oil, is in the collection of Brigadier Swinton; paintings by E. T. Parris and Miss E. G. Richards, were exhibited RA, 1833 (350), and 1852 (545); a painting called Lady Stirling-Maxwell, and attributed to Sir M. A. Shee, was at the Sedelmeyer Gallery, Paris, 1896 (95), reproduced sale catalogue, facing p 122; a drawing by B. R. Haydon is reproduced in his Diaries, edited W. B. Pope (1963), IV, 97, possibly the drawing he later pawned (see IV, 236) Haydon also portrayed Lady Stirling-Maxwell as 'Cassandra Prophesying the Death of Hector', a painting recorded in the collection of the Duke of Sutherland, 1844; a drawing by Sir E. Landseer is in the Nottingham College of Art, exhibited Arts and Antiques in Nottinghamshire, Castle Museum, Nottingham, 1937 (557), possibly the drawing engraved by F. C. Lewis, published H. Colburn, 1840 (example in NPG); a water-colour by Mrs Ferguson of Raith of 1862 is in the Scottish NPG; a caricature drawing by herself was in the collection of Mrs Hodges, 1930; a miniature by J. West was exhibited RA, 1856 (975); busts by P. Hollins and T. Butler are listed by R. Gunnis, Dictionary of British Sculptors (1953), pp 205 and 74, the latter (a marble) exhibited RA, 1844 (1354); a marble bust by Lord Gifford (as a young woman) is at Pollok House, Glasgow; a wax medallion by R. C. Lucas is reproduced Connoisseur, XXVI (1910), 142, when in the collection of L. Harcourt; an engraving by D. Maclise (example in NPG) was published Fraser's Magazine, III (1831), facing 222, as no. 10 of Maclise's 'Gallery of Illustrious Literary Characters'; a pencil study is in the Victoria and Albert Museum; Lady Stirling-Maxwell was the model for 'Justice' in Maclise's fresco of that title in the House of Lords; a related oil study of 'Caroline Norton as Erin' is in the collection of the Hon. Desmond Guinness, exhibited Daniel Maclise, Arts Council at the NPG, 1972 (96); an engraving by H. Robinson, after T. Carrick, was published P. Jackson (example in NPG); there is an engraving by J. C. Bromley, after E. T. Parris, and a lithograph by I. W. Slater, after a drawing by J. Slater, published J. Slater, 1829 (examples in British Museum); a woodcut was published ILN, LXX (1877), 613; there is another woodcut and a photograph in the NPG.
