The three-quarter-length standing portrait c.1735, holding a paper inscribed: James Vernon Clerk of HM most Humble Privy Council …, Sotheby’s, 12 July 1995, lot 70 as by J.-B. Van Loo, from Knight, Frank & Rutley, May 9/10, 1961, lot 47, and the Phoenix Art Museum AZ, where attributed to Hayman. Probably Vernon’s son, also James Vernon (1677-1756) who had been clerk to the Privy Council 1697-1715?
