Musician, b. Cöthen, Sachsen-Anhalt; played in the court band at Dresden 1748-58 before coming in 1759 to London, where he shared a house with J. C. Bach 1762-73; chamber musician to Queen Charlotte; d. London.

‘A tall, big, portly person, with a waistcoat, under which might easily have been buttoned twin brothers’ (Henry Angelo, 1828).
