General; regenerator of the English army; KB 1795; died of a mortal wound at the Battle of Alexandria.
'Sir Ralph was very short-sighted, and this he considered to be the only deficiency in his military capacity, and to this he attributed, in part, his so constantly exposing his own person' (Memoir by his son, James Lord Dunfermline, 1861, p 304).
