Painting traditionally attributed to Francis Cotes, three-quarter length seated, left hand on his cheek (the coat apparently unfinished). Private Scottish collection. The identity is traditional, but the attribution to Cotes is doubtful; there is a pendant portrait of Mrs John Adam at Blair Adam.
