Painting by Benjamin Wilson, half length in captain's uniform. Engraved R. Earlom 1779 lettered Admiral of the Blue; anon. 1779 (bust-length oval). Wilson knew the sitter's brother Daines Barrington.

Painting by Joshua Reynolds, half length in flag officer’s full dress uniform. National Maritime Museum (BHC 2534; D. Mannings, Sir Joshua Reynolds, 2000, I, no.120). Engraved R. Earlom 1780; S. W. Reynolds; J. Chapman 1801; H. T. Ryall. Replicas were painted for officers serving under him and D. Mannings, Sir Joshua Reynolds, 2000, I, (nos.120a-120g) recorded seven versions, including those at Somerley; in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow; the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, Tenn.; Reading Museum, Reading, Pa., and sold Sotheby’s, 17 January 1985, lot 5 (from the St Louis City Art Museum). An unattributed oval miniature copy, dated 1796, sold Christie’s, 26 June 1980, lot 53, and a miniature enamel copy by I. H. Hurter exhibited SKM 1865 (91) lent Lord Cremorne.

Painting by Gilbert Stuart, half-length oval in admiral’s undress uniform. Exhibited RA 1785 (127). Engraved F. Bartolozzi 1812. Autograph versions at Saltram and with J. H. Morgan, Farmington, in 1937 (illus. L. Park, Gilbert Stuart, 1926, III, p 37). A miniature version by Philip Jean, showing slight differences in the uniform, was engraved J. Collyer 1790.
