Whig politician; sty. Viscount Duncannon before succeeding as 3rd Earl of Bessborough 1793; married 1780 Henrietta, daughter of 1st Earl Spencer; MP 1780-93; an admirer of Fox, under whom he served briefly as a lord of the Admiralty in 1782 and 1783; an avid print collector and a member of Brooks’s; ‘a man of the most amiable and mild manners’ (G. E. Cockayne The Complete Peerage).
