Poet, author of The Farmer's Boy, doggerel lines praised by Byron, translated into several languages, but which made Lamb 'feel sick'.

'He is of a slender make, of about five feet four inches high, very dark complexion' (George Bloomfield's Memoir, 1798, prefixed to The Farmer's Boy).
