John Linnell's Sitter Sketchbook in the British Museum records an oil sketch on a wood panel (12 x 10 in) made for Mrs (afterwards Lady) Callcott in 1831, and a duplicate for Mr Gibbon in 1847; the original was exhibited RA 1832 (362), engraved in mezzotint by Linnell himself, and is now in the Paul Mellon Collection, exhibited Virginia Museum of Fine Arts 1963 (295), and Tate Gallery 1981 (1).
