Later Stuart Portraits Catalogue

John Vaughan, 3rd Earl of Carbery (1639-1713), Governor of Jamaica and courtier

c.1670
Unattributed painting, three-quarter-length standing to left, right hand at breast, inscribed with identity. Carmarthenshire County Museum, formerly at Golden Grove (J. Steegman, Portraits in Welsh Houses, II, 1962, p 66, no.9; illus. K. S. Campbell & R. A. G. Howard, Catalogue of the Pictures, Golden Grove, 1904, no.7). The identity depends upon the inscription, but there seems little similarity with NPG 3196, even allowing for the great difference in age.

1703
A painting said to have been ‘painted by Guest in 1703’, was with Alan Stepney-Gulston, Derwydd (DNB).

c.1708
Painting by Godfrey Kneller, see NPG 3196.
