1880–81
Cast bronze medallion, 111mm diameter, by Alfred Gilbert, inscr. ‘Alfred Gilbert Perugia 1881’, head, profile to left; M. d’Orsay, Paris, MEDOR 551. Exh. RA 1886 (1912); repr. Dorment 1985, pl.15; Dorment et al. 1986, no.38.
Plaster version, 111mm diameter, inscr. ‘Alfred Gilbert’; formerly with Corbet’s widow, in 1986 with Joan Martin. Repr. Jones 1979, no.373, as ‘portrait of a man’ (named as Corbet in handlist).
In the summers of 1901 and 1902 Gilbert rented a farmhouse outside Perugia, near to Corbet (see Dorment 1985, p.37), and the inscription indicates they were both in the same area twenty years earlier.
