Oil by Phillips at 50 Albemarle Street commissioned by John Murray in 1817 - 'among other claims upon me was one of Mr Murray's to whom tho we have no other Connection, I am engaged to sit for my Picture & Mr Phillips, a Painter well known has succeeded in taking not only a good likeness but he has also made an excellent picture …'; two sittings are recorded in Crabbe's Journal during July 1817; Crabbe appears with Scott, Southey and Campbell in Phillips's Sitter Book for December 1818, all kit-cats; a copy is entered under July 1822 painted for Lady Holland and later at Lansdowne House (sketch by Scharf in Sir George Scharf’s Sketchbooks, 103, p 46).
