Richard Lovell Edgeworth (1744-1817), Writer and inventor

Natural philosopher, author and inventor, of Edgeworthstown House, Co. Longford; FRS 1781; four times married (the third time to the daughter of Daniel Augustus Beaufort), his twenty-two children included the novelist Maria Edgeworth; friend of Erasmus Darwin and Thomas Day.

‘a man eccentric, talkative to a tiresome degree; but possessing considerable talent’ (F. N. C. Mundy, 1813).
