Statesman; sty. Earl of Euston 1747; succeeded his grandfather 1757 as 3rd Duke of Grafton; MP 1756-57; prime minister 1768-70; KG 1769; lord privy seal 1771-75 and 1782-83; Newmarket, the hunt and his mistress Nancy Parsons easily distracted him from his statesman’s role.
