Early Victorian Portraits Catalogue

Sir Henry Havelock, Bt (1795-1857), General

The only likenesses from the life are Mrs Mannin's water-colour, Lundgren's sketches, and the undated daguerreotype.

1851
Water-colour by Mrs M. Mannin. Collection of the Havelock Estate, on loan to the Yorkshire County Record Office, Northallerton (N. Riding). Reproduced J. C. Pollock, Way to Glory (1957), frontispiece. The lithograph by C. J. Baselie, published Colnaghi and M. H. Mason, Brighton, 1857 (example in NPG), shows Havelock in military costume, but is almost certainly based on this water-colour; the head in the woodcut published ILN, XXXI (1857), 257, is very similar.

1857
'The Relief of Lucknow' by T. J. Barker, after sketches by E. Lundgren. Corporation of Glasgow.
Engraved by C. G. Lewis, published Agnew, 1860 (example in NPG, plate 412). Lundgren's sketches were sold at Christie's, 16 April 1875.
