Sir George Hayter (1792-1871), Portrait and history painter; son of Charles Hayter

Portrait and historical painter; son of the miniaturist, Charles Hayter (1761-1835); studied at Rome; established a good portrait practice; painted 'Trial of Lord William Russell' for the Duke of Bedford; portrait and historical painter to Queen Victoria, 1837; knighted, 1842; chiefly remembered for his large group portraits, of which there are two in the NPG, and several in the Royal Collection.
