Historical painter, son of the painter William Jefferys of Maidstone; apprenticed to the engraver William Woollett; RA schools 1772; exhibited Society of Artists, London, between 1771 and 1774 and RA 1774-75 and 1783; in Italy 1775-78 on a three-year travelling scholarship from the Society of Dilettanti and may have stayed until 1781, when he is next recorded in England.
