Lawrence's well-known portrait formerly at Downton Castle, now in Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, exhibited RA 1794 (181), three-quarter-length seated holding a large volume of engravings on his knees, reproduced in Garlick, Lawrence, 1954, plate 29 and in colour in Michael Clarke & Nicholas Penny, The Arrogant Connoisseur, 1982, VII.

A later portrait by Lawrence, in the Society of Dilettanti collection, engraved in mezzotint by Bromley c.1805 and in stipple by Scriven 1811.
