Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence (1806-1857), General in the East India Company

Soldier and administrator; brother of Lord Lawrence; joined Bengal artillery, 1822; served in various campaigns in India; resident in Nepal, 1843-6; resident in Lahore, 1847; agent to the governor-general in the Punjab, and later in Rajpootana; chief commissioner in Oudh, 1856; killed while successfully defending Lucknow during the Indian mutiny.
