Oil by Lawrence painted for the United Service Club of which he was the founder and which bought the portrait in 1821, whole-length standing in long top-coat with fur collar, sheathed cutlass over left arm (Kenneth Garlick, ‘Catalogue of Paintings, Drawings and Pastels of Sir Thomas Lawrence’ in Walpole Society Journal, XXXIX, 1964, p 134, no.4); half-length copy was at Christie's, 1 May 1963 (64) bought Leggatt, now in the same collection.

Mrs Thomas Graham was painted at least twice by Gainsborough – National Gallery Washington and National Gallery of Scotland; 'Mrs Graham as Housemaid' in Tate Gallery is fanciful (see E. Maxtone Graham, The Beautiful Mrs Graham, 1927).
