Thomas Parker, 1st Earl of Macclesfield (1667-1732), Lord Chancellor

Judge; Inner Temple 1684; Trinity College, Cambridge, 1685; called to the Bar 1694; MP 1705-10; serjeant-at-law and Queen’s serjeant 1705; Kt. 1705; played a vital part in the impeachment of Sacheverell 1709-10; lord chief justice 1710-18; FRS 1712; created Baron Parker 1716; lord chancellor 1718-25; created Earl of Macclesfield 1721; resigned as chancellor 1725 and impeached soon after on charges of corruption; retired to Shirburn, where he gathered a remarkable library.
