Sir James Outram, 1st Bt (1803-1863), Lieutenant-General

Lieutenant-general; joined Indian army, 1819; from 1825-60 served almost continuously as Indian soldier and administrator; became famous for the defence of Haidarabad, 1843, his victory over the Persians, 1857, and the defence and relief of Lucknow, 1857; received baronetcy, pension, and freedom of London, 1858; published works on military subjects.
