Early Victorian Portraits Catalogue

A painting by Sir F. Grant is owned by the Corporation of Huntingdon, listed in the artist's 'Sitters Book' (copy of original MS, NPG archives), under 1848, exhibited RA, 1849 (140), reproduced Connoisseur, CXXXV (1955), 239, engraved by S. W. Reynolds junior, published Colnaghi, 1850 (example in British Museum); a painting by T. Phillips is listed in his 'Sitters Book' (copy of original MS, NPG archives), under 1834, exhibited RA, 1834 (61), engraved by H. Robinson, published R. Ryley, J. Fraser, and F. G. Moon, 1838 (example in NPG), for 'Portraits of Conservative Statesmen'; paintings by Miss Mary Maskall, W. Long, and W. W. Ouless were exhibited RA, 1829 (125), 1834 (220), and 1873 (93); a miniature by Miss Maskall was exhibited RA, 1812 (608), and a miniature by an unknown artist was exhibited VE, 1892 (440), lent by Lady Pollock; busts by W. Behnes of 1842 and by T. Woolner of c.1870 are in the Inner Temple, London, the former probably the bust exhibited RA, 1844 (1384); a bust by J. Durham was exhibited RA, 1848 (1399); a caricature lithograph by 'ATE' (A. Thompson) was published Vanity Fair, 2 April 1870; a woodcut was published ILN, I (1842), 304; a photograph by J. & C. Watkins is in the NPG, and another is reproduced as a woodcut ILN, XLIX (1866), 424.
