Sir Francis Ronalds (1788-1873), Inventor of the electric telegraph and meteorologist

Electrician and meteorologist; invented a telegraphic instrument and a perspective tracing instrument; honorary director of the Meteorological Observatory, Kew, 1843-52; devised a system of automatic registration for meteorological instruments by means of photography; knighted, 1871; left a large library devoted to electrical subjects.
