Sir James Yorke Scarlett (1799-1871), General

General; entered army, 1818; tory MP for Guildford, 1836-41; commanded 5th Dragoon Guards, 1840-54; in command of the heavy brigade in the Crimea, and led their famous charge at Balaclava; later commanded the entire British cavalry there.
