Granville Sharp (1735-1813), Scholar and philanthropist

Philanthropist, 9th son of Thomas Sharp, Archdeacon of Northumberland; served in the ordnance department 1758-76; a campaigner for civil rights, chairman of the society for the abolition of slavery 1787; wrote Remarks on the Uses of the Definitive Article in the Greek Text of the New Testament 1798, founded the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1804 and latterly believed Napoleon to be the ‘Little Horn’ mentioned in the Book of Daniel.
