.1840 is mentioned in a letter (Trinity College library) from Spedding to John Allen of 24 August 1840; another version was given by the artist to Edward Fitzgerald, sold Christie's, 8 December 1883 (lot 17); a painting by S. Laurence of 1859 is in the collection of J. H. F. Spedding, presumably that exhibited RA, 1860 (123), together with three other portraits by Laurence; a posthumous painting by S. Laurence of 1881-2 is at Trinity College, Cambridge (chapel), and so is a marble medallion by T. Woolner of 1882, exhibited RA, 1882 (1637); several paintings of a 'Mr Spedding' were in the Laurence Sale, Puttick and Simpson, 12 June 1884 (lots 154 and 161); a drawing by S. Laurence is in the collection of Miss Armide Oppé; a drawing by himself of 1834 was in the collection of the Master of Trinity College, 1908; a woodcut was published ILN
