Whig politician; succeeded as 2nd Earl of Upper Ossory [I] 1758; MP 1767-94; FRS 1780, FSA 1793; created Baron Upper Ossory [GB] 1794; though he loved gaming and Newmarket, he ‘had good sense without vanity, and good nature without weakness’ (G. E. Cockayne, The Complete Peerage); one of the pall-bearers at Joshua Reynolds’s funeral; older brother of Richard Fitzpatrick.
