Headmaster of Westminster school 1788-1802; Vincent Square, which he preserved as a playground for the school, was named after him; Dean of Westminster (and Dean of the Bath) 1802-15, directing restoration work in the Henry VII chapel from 1807; a respected classical scholar, specialising in ancient geography.
