William Wake (1657-1737), Archbishop of Canterbury

Primate; Christ Church, Oxford; BA 1676, MA 1679; chaplain to the embassy in Paris 1682-85; DD 1689; Dean of Exeter 1701-05; Bishop of Lincoln 1705-16; Archbishop of Canterbury 1716-37, but from 1719 withdrew from public affairs; a scholarly church historian, he published the State of the Church and Clergy of England 1703.
