Anne Hyde, Duchess of York (1637-1671), First wife of James II; mother of Mary II and Queen Anne

Eldest child of 1st Earl of Clarendon; in 1654 at The Hague made maid of honour to Princess Mary of Orange, whose brother James, Duke of York, she married 3 September 1660; d. 31 March 1671 as a Catholic; of her eight children only Mary and Anne survived childhood.
