Composer, ‘the English Bach’; b. Leipzig, 11th son of J. S. Bach; studied in Bologna from 1756; organist at Milan Cathedral 1760-62; came to London 1762 and made music master to the Queen; prior to his marriage in 1773, he shared house with K. F. Abel; d. London.
