Edwin Hayes (1819-1904), Marine painter

Marine painter; born 7 June 1819, in Bristol. Raised in Dublin, dividing youth between art school and the sea; exhibition debut Royal Hibernian Academy 1842, where associate 1853 and member 1871; moved to London 1852; exh. British Institution 1854, Royal Academy from 1855 and many other venues, including Grosvenor Gallery and international exhibitions; associate New Society of Painters in Water Colours 1860, member 1863; solo show Dowdeswells 1888; father of 11 children; died (standing at easel) 7 November 1904, in London.
