Charles Hutton (1737-1823), Mathematician

Mathematician; b. Newcastle, he opened a mathematical school at Jesmond 1760; wrote The Schoolmaster’s Guide 1764 and many essays, primarily in the field of applied mathematics; professor of mathematics at the Royal Academy, Woolwich 1773-1807; FRS 1774; LL.D. Edinburgh 1779.
