Caroline Blanche Elizabeth (née FitzRoy), Lady Lindsay (1844-1912), Writer and patron of the arts; wife of Sir Coutts Lindsay, 2nd Bt; daughter of Hon. Henry FitzRoy

Artist and art patron; born 19 September 1844, in London, granddaughter of Mayer Rothschild. Studied at Heatherley’s; married Sir Coutts Lindsay, Bt 1864, two daughters; exh. Grosvenor Gallery, New Society of Painters in Water Colours, New Gallery; member Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and Society of Women Artists; co-founder and funder of the Grosvenor G. with her husband from 1877 until their separation in 1882; author of fiction, verses and belles-lettres; died 4 August 1912, in London

In the 1870s, she was regarded as ‘a very attractive looking woman, with hair of a rich brown colouring and beautiful blue eyes. She was very clever and very witty, but as I used to laugh and tell her, her chief delight was to appear foolish.’ [1]
